I arrived in Taraunga on a working vacation and sought out Basestation to use as an office 1-3 times a week for a month, and stayed for 6 :) I could not be happier. I work remotely as a video editor a motion graphics designer, and on some days I need to download a terabyte of content from clients on the other side of the world. Basestation set me up with this capability with ease. I was downloading 4k video, editing, and delivering final cuts all in the same day. The internet speed IS INSANE at Basestation. There is IT support on site which a few of the other co op working spaces I tried out in New Zealand didn't have. The space is very comfortable and social, but easy enough to focus in and cram out work. Tons of weirdos work there as well, so there is always someone cool doing something interesting. Hans and the boys running the Folk coffee shop on site are great, and the caffeine shoots straight into your brain. Good stuff. The staff at Baststation were also nice enough to facilitate some last minute requests, and because we had built a good relationship over the months, they became very flexible with some deadlines I had and allowed me to use the space during some extended and odd hours. I know this isn't common for them but I appreciated it, and it helped me deliver some last minute projects. 10/10

When I started out I would have saved a lot of time if I hadn't needed to fit out an office, install infrastructure and pay all the bills… I imagine what it could have been like if I had just got on with it and focused on what I do. Fifteen years on we can make this happen for others starting up.
