Basestation Bytes | Winter 2025

Kia ora koutou,

Welcome to our (slightly late) winter newsletter!

Let's dive into what's happening in the world of coworking as the weather starts warming up...

Bus stops and access

It’s fantastic to see increased activity on Durham Street with more people utilising the bus stops. Remember, if you need to drop something off at Basestation or grab a delicious coffee at Folk, there’s a loading zone right outside on Durham Street that you can use!

Basestation x STEMFest

One of our proudest highlights is sponsoring the award-winning STEMFest. We are honoured to be one of the original host venues for this free family event that celebrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Every resident here engages with one or more of these essential fields, so we love sharing our space with thousands of visitors during the festival. This year, it will take place on Sunday 28th September, and there’s currently a waitlist for free tickets. Keep reading to learn more about this exciting event and the charity behind it.

Shared Office Space

We have a variety of office sizes available, from single occupancy to spaces for up to 8 people. Just move in - no need to stress about purchasing furniture or setting up contracts for cleaners, Wi-Fi, power suppliers, etc. Contact our team today to learn more or schedule a tour.

Mā te wā,

Team Basestation

Charities at Basestation – STEM Wana

With STEMFest just around the corner (the 28th September to be more precise!) — we thought this would be a great opportunity to take a closer look at STEM Wana, the charitable organisation behind STEMFest, and also a resident here at Basestation.

Lunch Hot Spots in Tauranga CBD

At Basestation we have two fully equipped modern kitchens - this means that if you’re a resident, working at a hot desk, or using one of our meeting rooms you can BYO food in.

That being said - every now and again our residents like to venture out and sample some locally prepared kai (food) from the local cafes, restaurants and eateries.

New to Tauranga? How coworking can help you find your people

Are you new to Tauranga? Between 2013 and 2023, the population of Tauranga grew by 32.73%!

Moving to any new location is always a challenge, especially if you don’t have a large office with an established group of colleagues to go to during your working hours. Often it’s through work we forge our first friendships and start to cultivate social engagements.

Who uses coworking spaces?

Coworking has its roots in the tech space. Many people see the independent c-base in Berlin, Germany as being the ‘origin story’ for the coworking movement. Formed in 1995, c-base saw itself as the hub of the Berlin hacker scene with a purpose to increase knowledge and skills pertaining to computer software, hardware and data networks.
