Soon after, our early-starting residents begin to trickle in. At Basestation, if you're a permanent resident, you have 24/7 access. That means if you’ve got an early morning call with an overseas team or customer — or you just like to get ahead before the world wakes up — the place is yours.
If it’s a Thursday morning, you’ll find the Kickstarter Toastmasters group down in our event space. They’re busy practising their public speaking skills and giving each other constructive feedback.
The Commute
Residents commute to Basestation in a variety of ways. Being on Durham Street - the public transport hub, a number of people catch the bus to work. We also have two large multistorey car parks at either end of the street — super convenient for those who drive.
Then there are, of course, the hardcore cyclists and e-scooter riders who roll into our secure garage before jumping in the shower and freshening up for their day in the office.
The Morning Hustle
By 9:30am, Basestation is humming. Our open-plan space fills with a mix of permanent residents and casual users who pop in for a hot desk — for a day, a few hours, or just long enough to be productive and get stuff done!
Upstairs, a collection of private offices buzz with quiet energy. There’s usually a friendly chorus of “Morning!” and “How are you?” echoing through the kitchens before everyone gets stuck into their mahi.
Visitors come and go throughout the day — some with meeting room bookings, others here to see the awesome businesses based at Basestation. Thanks to our digital sign-in system, residents get a ping when their guests arrive, avoiding any awkward loitering at the front desk.
Lunchtime Vibes
Come lunchtime, the kitchens and courtyard come alive. It's kai time! Some people bring lunch from home — we’ve got fridges, microwaves, sandwich presses in each kitchen, and a variety of sauces, spreads, milk, and fruit that residents can help themselves to. Others head out to one of the many tasty spots nearby for a bite to eat.
The Afternoon Flow
Afternoons are much like the mornings — a healthy mix of heads-down focus, collaborative catch-ups, and the occasional caffeine top-up. In short, the mahi gets done!
By 2:30pm, the café has cleared out and their staff are heading home. Soon after, parents on the school run head off to pick up their tamariki. Around 5–6pm, most of the residents who’ve been here all day start to wrap up and head off too.
But Wait, There’s More…
Just when you think the building is ready to retire for the night, the Basement comes alive!
On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, Tinkd Makerspace swings into action. Run by an awesome crew of staff and volunteers, Tinkd is a creative wonderland. With everything from 3D printers to laser cutters, it’s where ideas go to become real things.
It runs from 5–8pm, and Basestation doesn’t fully quiet down until well after 8pm.
